Moschino Know How To Get People Talking Don’t They?

Moschino sure know how to make an impact, and Jeremy Scott made certain that his debut was the ultimate one to know so far this season.

They certainly know how to turn heads, last season they gave you the teddy bear hat, this season they’ve given you Maccy D’s (I can assure you, everyone will want that happy meal handbag come September), SpongeBob, cereal packets (similarly to Mike TV, you’d think they’ve been put in Willy Wonka’s machine, twisted, enlarged and made into these wonderful dresses) and to top it off a dress made up of nutritional facts!

Are you now intrigued to watch the show? After seeing instagram after work I sure was desperate too. I can’t say I would rock up in my local town to go shopping (if I could ever afford anything aside from the Maccy D’s phone case) in any of the designs shown down the catwalk but the creativity gone into this show is just amazing, there’s no doubt about it.

Monochrome Monday

First day of half term, and I was dying for a lie in, so the outfit decisions this morning where quick and easy thanks to my much needed sleep.

I caught this coat in the Topshop sale a couple weeks ago, and despite me calling it my lab coat, as quite frankly on a short person like me, it’s a little longer than intended, I love it. I’m one of those that is all up for the colourful piece then and again, but when it really comes to it, I’m the one that stands in the shop and says ‘It would look better in black’. As the iconic king of fashion quotes, Mr Karl Lagerfeld said “One is never over dressed or under dressed with a little black dress”, so why not take that to the full and buy half your wardrobe in black? It goes with everything, but no better colour to put it with than white! Hence why this is starting to become my go to outfit. Plus, it means I can be lazy with makeup by using lipstick to add a pop of colour.

Makeup Must Haves

Your makeup, similarly to your wardrobe needs a reliable load of basics. I, just like any 18 year old girl that has an unhealthy obsession with shopping, does enjoy a mini treat in the beauty department in Selfridges. Then it comes to being realistic, as much as I’d love to fully stock up my makeup bag with Bobbi Brown, Chanel and MAC, that is just not gonna happen. A good boots buy is the way forward when in urgent need of basics.

With my high street and high end buys (not that many to be fair, I give in to clothes too easily to be fully stocked on expensive makeup) I have a fairly good collection of some reliable basics;

Soap And Glory – Hocus Focus

I’ve had this for two years but it’s been one of those products that I’ve been very on and off with. Personally, I think that’s because it’s best for winter as it’s a more hydrating alternative to powder highlighter, yet it is still quite subtle so is nice to sweep on your cheekbones for a lazy day when you aren’t up for full makeup. However I would say, when layered over foundation it doesn’t always blend brilliantly if you’re being lazy, but the product itself does last forever!

Bourjois Paris – Bronzing Primer

I bought this product out of curiosity last summer after it was hyped about so much everywhere and compared with Chanel’s Soleil Tan de Chanel, and I haven’t stopped using it since! It’s very subtle when worn underneath foundation but, for me, I prefer it that way, I like to try and avoid looking like I’ve spent half an hour doing my makeup in the morning.

Laura Mercier – Silk Crème Foundation

Despite the fact I am currently in constant fear that this foundation no longer matches my skin tone because I purchased it in the summer, I do still like it. I haven’t tried an extreme amount of foundations but personally, I find this foundation quite thick, which in comparison to a liquid foundation of course it’s gonna be. As the name gives away, the foundation has a crème texture which helps to give you a really good coverage, always a bonus! But with skin like mine, if I want good coverage to last for longer than 2-3 hours I need to get priming beforehand (I’m too lazy for this at the moment so I can’t confirm if it would be massively beneficial). I am a fan of this foundation and it was the best one I found when I was having trouble with acne on my chin as it is good coverage, but I think I want to experiment with other foundation when it comes to restocking.

MAC – Eyeshadow In Matte Charcoal Brown

After testing a number of eyebrow pencils and a HD Brows eyebrow shadow that was a little too dark to be using, I decided to just keep it simple and go for this MAC matte eyeshadow. I’m admittedly a tad lazy with my makeup routine some mornings so using eyeshadow instead of a pencil to fill in and shape my brows is far easier and less time consuming, so perfect for me, I would defiantly recommend using a shadow like this for your brows if you’re not an early bird.

Naked 2 Palette

This product, honest to god, I could not live without. It’s honestly the best money I’ve ever spent on makeup. I think it’s going to get to the point, if it hasn’t already, that majority of girls between the age of 16-25 own one of their palettes. They’re perfect for everyday makeup with the complete collection of nude shadows, and easily work with a variety of other colours. Personally, I think it should be a compulsory Christmas present every year.

Revlon – Photoready 3D Volume Mascara

I’m a killer for a mascara that doesn’t clump, spider lashes, no thanks. This Revlon mascara is one of the best ones I have found for separating and lengthening my lashes, making them look longer and preventing them from clumping together to the point that I need wipe half the mascara onto the tube before I apply it. And to top it off, it lasts most of the day too.

Collection 2000 – Lasting Perfection Concealer

Anyone and everyone that watches beauty bloggers on youtube will have heard this concealer being recommended. For £4, the coverage is amazing and it has quite a matte texture so lasts really well (as long as you don’t keep touching the blemish you may be concealing, I’m forever getting moaned at for doing this).  However, the one thing that annoys me about this product, there is the possibility that it will leak in your handbag, it is the most annoying thing.

MAC – Ruby Woo

If you want a red lipstick, and don’t fancy spending the same amount, or more, that you would pay for a gig, buy this one! It’s a classic red that would suit a variety of skin tones and unlike a lot of red lipsticks, it lasts forever because of it’s matte texture. Although I do warn you, the matte texture isn’t the best thing at the end of the day when your lips aren’t looking quite so smooth as they were when you applied it that morning. Regardless, it is still a great basic to own.

Sales Haul

January sales are upon us. Are you finding a spare day in this Christmas holiday to go out and take full advantage? Or maybe like me, browsing Topshop’s website on Christmas Eve as soon as you get a notification of their sale?

Sales have this quality that takes over and makes you go crazy for something that before it was £10 cheaper you resisted from buying, making the Miss Sensible in you crazy. Sales really aren’t the easiest thing to resist are they?

Stupidly tempting myself, I have been within walking distance of a Topshop at least 5 times in the past week and have also been further tempted by the online sales. So this year, the Miss Sensible in me has not been screwed on. Although I have bagged some cute basics and statement items at reduced price!

On Christmas morning facing that I hadn’t received any loafers (I didn’t ask for them but you never know, my mum may be more psychic than I thought) I had a good browse of the Urban Outfitters sale. You can always bag a bargain in their sales. I found myself some Deena & Ozzy loafers. They are a perfect combination of patent and matte and surprisingly really comfy!

£48 reduced to £30

Zara is one of the high street stores where a sale is rare and everything sells out within hours, but I managed to bag myself this grey, autumnal, woolen skirt. It has a lace underlining at the bottam that gives it a more feminine touch and also subtly fits with the underwear as outerwear trend that has been popular these past few seasons. Although, I have to admit, it isn’t the most comfortable skirt I’ve ever worn in my life, plus it also came up shorter than I had expected so I’m a little weary on wearing it (never a good thing when it’s from a sale) but I think it’s still such a cute skirt regardless.

The rest of my sale picks are Topshop. Sorry for the lack of versatility.

This doesn’t particularly count as January sales but as you may know Topshop had been having nonstop sales throughout December so when I failed my driving test I turned to retail therapy and purchased this cute boucle style biker jacket that I have lived in ever since. It is extremely versatile and so warm and comfy, although I hate putting my hands in the pockets, I’m forever scratching my hands on the zips.

£60 reduced to £45

Two of the items I have purchased, much to my delight, were both pink. I have loved this colour to bits this season, although I doubt I’m the only one. I always think that basics are always a good purchase in the sale so I thought I couldn’t leave either this oversized T-shirt, or jumper on the rail. They’re both so perfect for those slob days or as necessary this year, the whole Christmas holidays (my stomach was not putting in any effort to hide after the number of roast dinners I’ve had).

The t-shirt is so comfortable and with the subtle floral pattern and bubblegum pink colour it isn't too basic and boring so I'm sure can easily be styled in versatile ways; with a glossy lip, black jeans, some strappy heels and maybe a statement necklace it would be totally acceptable for a simple outfit for going out. 

£22 reduced to £12 

At first I really regretted choosing this jumper in the coral pink colour rather than the forever versatile grey, but the more I wear it the more inclined I'm becoming to accept that maybe it isn't always better to go for the safe simple choice.

Finally these houndstooth brogues from Topshop have become my definition of perfect! When I first saw them I decided against them although I regretted not getting them ever since so when I then saw them again, leaving them just was not even a choice (sensible thinking didn't last long). You must agree, they’re so perfect for a statement piece to add to a black outfit when you’re feeling lazy or to add a pop of pattern.

Midi Heights

Jumper (Zara) Skirt + Shoes (Topshop)

I've taken the opportunity of half term to finally blog an outfit of the day! Yay. During term time getting ready in time to actually have spare time to do one is near impossible. 

I got this midi skirt for my birthday at the beginning of October. How has it taken me the whole month to pluck up the courage and find a good day to wear it? Despite how long it has taken me to wear it, I absolutely loved it. 

There's something about A-line Midi skirts and a boat neck jumper that make me feel oh so 'Hepburn'. 

The thing that makes this midi skirt all the bit better is that, in my opinion it's far more wearable than majority of the midi skirts on the high street. Although I think without the slightly sheer, patterned fabric layered over a mini underskirt I (a slightly short 18 year old) would feel a little overdressed.

Mission Of A Lifetime

Every Autumn I long for the perfect coat. Like everyone, it’s the one thing I’m on search for from the first day the pre-autumn clothes hit the racks. But is this task impossible? Will I ever find a perfect coat?

Like every woman in the fashion world I am longing for that cute, dusty pink, Simone Rochaesque coat that I can hide under on a rainy day and still feel good despite my frizzy, damp hair that is swept all over my face.

And to my utter disappointment this morning discovered that they’ve sold out! And. By the looks of it, have stopped stocking it! I felt like crying.

Lets Pop Down To The Ice Cream Shop

Have you also been someone that walked into Topshop recently and thought you were in Barbie’s wardrobe? I certainly did, and I love it! It’s all so pretty. Pastel coloured jumpers galore, it’s just so irresistible. I feel like a little girl again wondering round touching the clothes with their variety of textures from soft cashmere cardigans to vinyl pencil skirts.

With New York Fashion Week filling my instagram over the past few days I noticed, sorbet shades are here to stay. Zac Posen dressed his models in midi, flowing dresses you would imagine a (very fashion conscious) ballet teacher wearing. Prabul Garung created elegant, fifties inspired outfits in shiny, stiffened satin, and Rag And Bone edged ever so slightly away from the expected boyish look with their models sporting a satsuma/red lip and loose spaghetti strap dresses, creating long and lean silhouettes only we could dream of.
