Bubble Pop Electric

Have you been watching Channel 4's 'This Old Thing: The Vintage Clothes Show'? If so, has it also been enticing you into vintage shops? It's honestly making me want to get on the train to Brighton and have a good nosey through the shops in the lanes. I blame Dawn O'Porter for that. Her style is amazing.

This week I made my first charity shop purchase, it's not vintage but I saw the hat in the window and knew it would be a bargain I wouldn't regret. Who could ever regret buying a cute hat that cost less than an M&S sandwich.

Okay, so some of you may hate me for a throwback to Gwen Stefani circa 2004, but I love a good noughties sing along. This one is one of the best of her album, Love.Angel.Music.Baby and with a few listens, you absolutely will know most the words to the song. Have fun singing along to it on road trips this summer.
Enjoy!

Raise Your Love

Burberry is a brand that is so British you have to love it. It's heritage certainly helps. We all know that Burberry helped design the trench coats used in war, but did you know, that the men who made the first flight from Britain across the Atlantic ocean were suited and booted in good old Burberry. They really do have quite a heritage (if you want to learn some interesting facts about their history have a looksy here).

Anyway, before you get all excited that I have invested in a Burberry trench coat or something similar, I haven't. Not rich enough for that yet. The reason I'm talking about Burberry is because, as you probably saw, their Autumn/Winter 2014 show was loaded with models wearing scarves that were cinched at the waist with a thin belt. I've stolen their stylists idea and used it for a summer alternative with some denim cut offs and a plain tee.

The one thing I love about the Burberry fashion shows is that unlike many, they have music played live by British singers, not the average pop singers either. They often choose singer/songwriters that are more up and coming rather than the ones of the moment. At the Autumn/Winter 14 shows they had Ed Harcourt, Rhodes and Paloma Faith performing.
If you fancy a listen to the live recording (at the Burberry show) of Rhodes song  Raise Your Love, here you are - RHODES – Raise Your Love - Live From Burberry Fashion Show

Guest Post: Top 5 Summer Favourites featuring Luna's Lens

Hi, I'm Poppy from Luna's Lense where I write a blog based on beauty products. Here are my top 5 summer favourites.

This is a popular fragrance, one which I also love. It is described as "a sunny delicious floral - energetic and alluring, with a sparkling, golden touch. The perfect mix of brightness and warmth." Which is exactly what it is, I love putting this on in the morning as it makes me feel refreshed and really gives my day a lift from the very start. I feel I only need a squirt here and there and the smell sticks around for ages. This is probably best for the day time, a bit too girly and not quite mature enough smelling for an evening out. Then there's the packaging, just how cute is this? It so girly. I absolutely love having this on display, it really brightens up my room! I guess it's not so good for travelling as it's quite delicate but I don't normally take my bigger bottles around with me anyway. This is such a versatile summer smell!

I am really picky with shaving as I have particularly dark hair that always seems to be noticeable and grows back super quick, how annoying. I have been on the hunt for some new razors and I picked up these Gillete Venus Oceana (which were down to half price here) and I think I've found the one. They glide so well and leave my legs unbelievably smooth. They also don't leave my legs looking dotty from small hairs, even on day two my legs still look free from stubble. They have little lids (if that's the right word) so you can take them travelling with you, which I think is really handy. I'm so happy I picked these up. Especially as we all know how horrible it is having to shave our legs day in day out, getting a horrible shaving rash, which I will not be getting from these! Definitely something to pick up for the summer.

I picked up this blusher in response to Velvetgh0st's recommendations. I now adore it and it's quickly turned into a part of my daily routine. It's a Bourjois Little Round Pot Blush in the shade 95 Rose de Jaspe. I've never had anything like it before but it blends so easily and leaves me looking flushed but not caked in embarrassing I'm- trying- not-to-blush type cheeks. I use a brush I bought from H&M or something and it's not incredible but seeing as the blush still blends flawlessly it must be down to the blush and not the brush. Definitely a great perk-me-up for rosy summer cheeks.

This is my all time favourite foundation as it is, but for summer this is a must have. It blends flawlessly and doesn't budge, it also has a medium to high coverage whilst the consistency it still silky and not like a thick crème. Plus it has a spf of 17 and a huge wide range of colours. So for pale people like I who burn super easy this is a go-to. Of course you have to reapply sun lotion but this is so easily buildable that is no problem!

This is my canon AE-1 and for summer is perfect. It takes 35mm film, which I think is so gorgeous. You can't help but look back trough 35mm film without feeling good and thinking of summer. It's a tad heavy but I don't care as the photo's come out absolutely beautiful every time (and you can buy film in poundland). Camera like this really capture the moment for me so I can't wait to get out and get using it!

Thanks for reading and thank you Ellie for hosting my post,
Pops xx

What Took You So Long?

It's been a while now that I've fancied myself a nice pair of leather shorts, and the current Topshop sale brought them to me. Ever since I saw the following photo of Miranda Kerr effortlessly rockin' a pair, I was bought. Don't you think they are the perfect alternative to a pair of black denim cut off's? A perfect alternative that not every girl on the high street owns either. They are a basic worth investing in, unless of course you snatch them up in a sale and then you're all the more happier.
I reckon regardless of how you style them, paired with a breton top or denim shirt or even just a simple plain white tee jazzed up with some red lipstick like Miranda Kerr, they somehow, I think, still make you look like you've put in some effort - even if you did rush out the house after waking half hour late.

Top - River Island

Bag - Zara

I found this Courteeners song recently, and thought the title totally fitted. It's catchy aswell, making it all the bit better for summer drives to the beach. The Courteeners – What Took You So Long?

Brushstroke

Celine - a brand with a minimal aesthetic that one day I dream of affording disappointed and excited many with Phoebe Philo's colourful, modern take on minimalism with the Spring Summer 14 collection. I loved it. So much so that as soon as I got my eye on this Zara dress, that I'm taking a wild guess was inspired by the collection, I had to snatch it up. It may not be the most versatile dress, the boxy shape doesn't fit too brilliantly with many jackets but on a nice day like this, you can rock it without worrying about a jacket.

For the song of the post, I've picked this Paulo Nutini song that I am absolutely loving at the moment Paolo Nutini – Fashion feat. Janelle Monáe. Hope you enjoy it.

Rearrange

Its slightly matchy matchy, but matchy matchy is my thing. I find it inspiring when you walk past a woman on the street that isn't afraid to clash a little, or a lot. But unlike women e.g. Susie Bubble (stylebubble) I'm not that uber-cool and creative.

Despite my mums comment "Hmm, that looks like a hairdressing cape" this mid-length kimono is growing on me. It'll be perfect for the beach on holiday this summer and paired with black denim cut offs will also be a festival outfit I'll be packing.

Jeans + Boots (Topshop)
Lipstick (MAC - Ruby Woo)
Kimono (H&M)

I tried my best to find a song that had some relation to the outfit one way or another but I was unsuccessful, so in replacement here's a song I'm loving this week Miles Kane – Rearrange .

Black And White Town

Due to the monochrome trend this season and my personal admiration for the colour combination it seems that this trend is the one reigning my spring/summer wardrobe this year.
I picked up this playsuit today bikini shopping - by far the worst form of shopping, changing room mirrors are not the most forgiving, wouldn't you agree?
Similarly to many products at the moment it is made from that thick, elasticated, lycra type of material making it incredibly comfortable, although it was the pattern that drew me in more than anything.
And the shoes. The shoes. I loved them since the moment I saw them and finally gave in to temptation and decided it was completely necessary I have them. They are very versatile after all, and the fact Zara only seem to stock their products for roughly six weeks enticed me even more. I didn't want them to become the shoes that got away.
These heels have also become my alternative to the strappy sandal, a wardrobe staple (those A line midi skirts don't look the part without them) that I will never buy into - I'm not someone that likes shoes that reveal my toes.

In fitting with the black and white outfit and title of this post here's a song;
